Yes, and since it’s a program created to be used on the go, having it on your phone is ideal.

The Connection Mode on the Go actions are based on what research shows is helpful to the brain and nervous system. For example, each action includes one or more of the following:

• vestibular and proprioceptive stimuli to make sure those two important sensory systems aren’t lagging

• crossing over moments to make sure both sides of the brain are talking to each other

• a little lightheartedness since it turns out being playful is key to staying in connection mode

• some mindfulness techniques to direct our attention to where we want our brain to focus

• ways to change our brain waves to spotlight which brain wave state would be most helpful at that moment

• how to move blood flow back to the thinking parts of our brain

The short answer is . . . just about anytime and anywhere. The long answer for “when” to do such actions might be for: reading a snarky text, being singled out in front of a group, paying big late fees, being snubbed, or losing something important. Possible “where” times might be: while at school, work, the airport, a sporting event, the ER room, or a family get-together. Of course, there are no wrong answers—especially since our nervous system can be triggered by anything, wherever we may be.

While younger kids can do some of the Connection Mode on the Go actions independently, most will require some assistance beyond watching how an action is modeled in a video. For example, an adult (at least initially) may need to guide a child as to where to place their hands (and then the adult puts their hand on top once in position), as well as how to move. Adults can also do many of the Connection Mode on the Go actions right on a child, without requiring that child to do anything on their own.

For the most part, yes. But there is some overlapping of all-time favorites.

We first implemented the Connection Mode Classroom program in 2022 in an elementary school in Carlsbad, California. Since then, we have continued to bring the Connection Mode Classroom program to more schools in surrounding cities.

When creating the Connection Mode Classroom program, we had a specific intent in mind. While our core programs take place at home, we were now thinking in terms of “connection mode on the go”--as in how to make it possible for teachers and students to do specific actions to prevent them from idling in protection mode when in the classroom.

To align with the school environment, we added new actions that were not already included in our other core programs. Once we experienced how effective and well-received those new “connection mode on the go” were, we decided to take that part of the Connection Mode Classroom curriculum and make it a simple program, Connection Mode on the Go, for anyone who wanted to be in connection mode wherever they were.

While teachers can decide on their own which audios, videos, and visuals they share with their students, Brain Highways also offers a one-hour, interactive Zoom session specifically for teachers. Training participants additionally receive an 8-day Connection Mode on the Go classroom rollout plan, which maps out which audios, videos, and visuals to share with their students during short, 5-7 minutes long lessons. No, that’s a primary focus of our Family and Adult programs. However, since those who haven’t finished their lower brain development often idle in protection mode at high numbers, the Connection Mode on the Go actions will help to reduce their daily stress.
