Potential

The Brain Highways program differs from most other approaches in that we focus on children’s potential, rather than viewing previously imposed “limits” as obstacles to progress.

Our expectation of change and progress is not based on naivety; rather, it is generated from the humbling acknowledgement and experience that no one can truly know with 100% certainty any given child’s full potential. In response to those who may view such thinking as “denial,” we respond with the perspective that denial can equally apply to those who refuse to believe that change is possible.

Likewise, whole brain organization does not mean that children then lose what makes them unique or special. In fact, when the lower centers of the brain are developed, a child’s exceptional traits are only enhanced. That’s because the child’s higher centers of the brain are no longer preoccupied with ways to compensate for the underdevelopment.

While we never know our participants’ full potential when they start the program, we do know that they are capable of more if they have retained primitive reflexes and underdeveloped early centers of the brain. Moreover, any increase in a child’s level of functionality is considered a positive gain.

With that in mind, the journey for each participant is the same, but the “end” of the highway varies, as that is directly linked to each participant’s actual genetics.
