“If every child completed the Brain Highways curriculum, school districts would save thousands of dollars on remedial programs, and children would have the opportunity to learn with joy and success.”

Free Screening

We offer a free screening at the Brain Highways Center for kids living near or in San Diego County.

For those living elsewhere, we also offer the same screening, but with a few modifications to account for facilitating the assessment somewhere other than the Brain Highways Center. In both cases, parents sign up to have their children screened.

To date, we’ve used our early brain assessment to screen more than 4,000 kids. Note that kids have no idea what’s actually being observed. We just tell them that they’ll be playing games that will likely show they’re smarter than anyone imagined.

However, in our ten-plus years of screening experience, we know that all kids will do one of several specific behaviors during each part of the assessment. What they do then gives us insights about their pons and midbrain development, as well as vestibular and proprioceptive processing.

The screening also provides an opportunity to perceive kids differently.   When we don’t know that underdeveloped lower centers of the brain can affect behavior and performance, we may just think a child is choosing to be lazy or shy or defiant or unfocused. We may also be resigned that certain behavior are a “given” if kids have been labeled with a specific diagnosis.
