Background Information
After Nancy Sokol Green created the Brain Highways program, the San Pasqual Union School District contracted her to create a curriculum that combined natural brain-processing skills with learning how to write the alphabet.
Why We Offer a Brain Highways Alphabet Class
- To ensure young children’s initial experiences with writing are successful
- To combine movement, creativity, and basic brain-processing skills with learning how to print letters
Participants and Staff
We enroll a maximum of 10 kids, with a ratio of staff to kids that is usually 1:3 or 1:4. Participants’ ages range from 4-8 years old; however, older kids (who needed help with letter formation) have also benefited by being a class “helper.” Parents attend classes with their kids.
Number of Classes
The Brain Highways Alphabet Class meets a total of five times. Each class is 45 minutes long.
Parent Support
Parents receive a copy of the Brain Highways Alphabet Program CD. This guide, created for the San Pasqual Union School District primary grade teachers, reinforces what’s presented in class, making it easy for parents to repeat those same activities at home.
The guide also provides information on what sensory system or brain processing skill is being enhanced with the activity, why the activities keeps kids engaged, how to incorporate creative and critical thinking when teaching the alphabet, and how this approach parallels stages of memory so that information is stored naturally in the child’s brain. Parents can also adapt this same approach for teaching phonics or math concepts.

Class Fee
$275 (covers the parent, child, Brain Highways Alphabet CD, and writing handouts); $175 is paid at the time of enrollment; the remaining $100 is paid at the third class. Please note that there are no refundable deposits, and all classes are filled on a first-come/first-served basis.
